Draft

This text is a draft and has not been reviewed by a lawyer. It will change before launch.

Terms of service

These terms apply to everyone who uses Iwe: readers, authors, and visitors. Authors also agree to the author agreement. How we handle personal data is in the privacy policy. Iwe is operated by [legal entity name, registered address] (to confirm).

Accounts

  • You sign in with a link sent to your email. Keep access to that email address secure; anyone who can read it can sign in as you.
  • An account is for one person. Do not share it.

What you get when you buy a book

  • A personal, non-transferable license to read the book in the Iwe reader. You do not get a file, and you do not own a copy of the text. The author keeps all rights in the book.
  • You can read on up to 3 devices at a time. You can remove a device from your account settings to free a slot.
  • Free chapters are offered by the author and give the same personal license for those chapters only.

What you must not do

  • Copy, share, publish, sell, or otherwise redistribute any part of a book beyond short quotations allowed by law.
  • Use scripts, scrapers, or other automated means to download or extract text, or try to get around the reader's protections or device limit.
  • Share your account or your password.

Every copy served is marked with information that identifies the account it was served to, so shared or leaked text can be traced back. We monitor reading for automated extraction. We may block or suspend an account, without a refund, when we reasonably believe it is breaking these rules (to confirm: refund position on suspension).

Payments and refunds

  • Payments are processed by Paystack. We do not see or store your card details. The price shown at checkout is the price you pay [to confirm: tax and VAT treatment].
  • Refund requests: [policy to confirm, for example within 7 days if less than a set share of the book has been read]. A refunded book is removed from your library.

Content and takedowns

Authors are responsible for the books they publish. If you believe a book infringes your rights, contact [rights contact email]. We may suspend a book while we look into a complaint. A suspended book is removed from sale and from every reader's library until the matter is resolved (to confirm: whether buyers are refunded if a book is permanently removed).

Availability and liability

We work to keep Iwe available but cannot promise uninterrupted access. [Limitation of liability, governing law (for example the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria), and dispute resolution: to be drafted by counsel.]

Changes

We will give notice of material changes to these terms by email or on the site before they take effect. Last updated: [date].
