Author agreement
This agreement applies when you upload a book to Iwe. It sits alongside the terms of service.
Your rights and your book
- You confirm that you own the rights to each book you upload, or are authorized by the rights holder, and that publishing it here does not infringe anyone else's rights.
- You keep all rights in your book. You give Iwe a non-exclusive license to store, convert, index, and display it to readers who buy it or read its free chapters, and to process it for the features below, for as long as it is on the platform.
- You can unpublish a book at any time. Readers who already bought it keep access [to confirm].
Where your book text is processed
Your book text is processed only on infrastructure Iwe controls or rents under its own account. It is never sent to third-party AI companies, and it is never used to train AI models.
- Storage: your manuscript and the converted chapters are encrypted in your browser or on our servers before they are stored, with Amazon Web Services in Ohio, United States, under our own account. Encryption keys are held by Iwe, not by Amazon.
- Conversion: manuscripts are converted into chapters in an isolated service on our infrastructure that has no internet access.
- Reading: chapters are decrypted on our servers only while being sent to a reader who bought the book or is reading a free chapter.
- AI features and audio (only if you turn them on): run on models hosted on our own infrastructure.
Exception: sales page drafting
If you choose to have AI draft or rewrite your sales page, the book title, subtitle, and the blurb you wrote, plus any sales page copy you ask it to rewrite, are sent to OpenAI to produce the draft. No chapter text, chapter titles, or excerpts from your book are sent. You do not have to use this feature.
Protection
We use encryption, watermarking, device limits, and monitoring to make copying expensive and to trace leaked copies to an account. No web reader can stop screenshots, photographs, or retyping, so we cannot promise that a book will never be copied.
Sales and payouts
- You set the price and how many chapters are free.
- Readers pay through Paystack, which sends your share straight to the bank account you set up. Iwe keeps 10% of each sale. Paystack's own fees are [to confirm: deducted from your share or from the platform fee].
- Refunds we grant are deducted from your share [to confirm how reversals are handled].
Readers' contact details
You can see and export the email addresses of readers who bought your books or read the free chapters. You may use them only to tell those readers about your own books, and you must honour requests to stop. You are responsible for complying with data protection law when you do.
Takedowns
We may suspend a book if we receive a credible rights complaint or the book breaks our terms. We will tell you and give you a chance to respond [process to confirm].
